More than 46 employees entered the Licence to Operate programme.

We took about 64 per cent of our water supplies from underground aquifers, 30 per cent from rivers and six per cent from reservoirs.

We take a leading role in promoting the sensible use of pesticides to farmers to reduce the impact on water sources.

Keeping supplies safe

Our water resource and safety plans are regularly reviewed to make sure we can continue to safeguard healthy drinking supplies for our customers.

We introduced a new training scheme for our operators to ensure they have the right skills to meet the National Operating Standard (NOS) for Water Supply Operations.

After classroom and on-site training, operators are assessed for a Licence to Operate qualification to act as frontline staff in the supply of drinking water.

In addition, we launched a pilot to develop a programme to review and update the operating plans for all of our water supply sites. The pilot was carried out at our works at Shalcombe and Sandown on the Isle of Wight and Snodhurst in Kent.
