Operators stood in aeration lanes

equipment efficiency
We are investing £5 million to rigorously monitor our pumps and equipment across the South East so we can carry out more timely maintenance and refurbishment and overall use less energy.

Savings made on energy use will be ploughed back into the programme between 2010 and 2015 for further monitoring and maintenance.

aeration lanes
The treatment of wastewater requires air to be bubbled through the water in aeration lanes and is an energy intensive process. A trial to improve the control of aeration lanes and use less air at Peel Common Wastewater Treatment Works in Fareham, Hampshire, is now being rolled out to other works in the South East.
