Each person uses about 150 litres of water every day in the South East.
With that much water you could do one of the following:
• take two baths
• flush the toilet 20 times
• use a water butt full of water on the garden
• take five showers
• wash two full loads of washing.
This is more than twice as much as we were using 25 years ago, due to a growing use of washing machines, dishwashers and gardening.
The growing population and effects of climate change are also putting pressure on our water resources which are already under stress. The current drought means it is even more important that we pay attention to how much water we use.

Using water wisely helps protect the environment and keep our rivers flowing. It can also be good for your pocket if you pay for the water you use on a water meter.
Saving water also saves money on energy bills by using less energy to heat water. Explore our water efficiency section to find out more about how you can save water at home, at work or in the community.
