Southern Water has installed a new section of sewer along the route of Shoreburs Greenway footpath between South East Road and Botany Bay Road.
It replaces the two existing pipes, one of which was damaged by a third party.
The sewer could not be repaired so a new section of pipe has been installed to divert the sewer around the cause of the original damage, with the capacity to replace both the damaged sewer and the one that was still in service to reduce the risk of further damage and flooding in the area.
A trenchless method of pipe laying was used to install the new sewer. It involved pushing pipes through the ground using a type of tunnelling machine, rather than a continuous open trench, reducing the impact on the local community and the environment.
The work was carried out on our behalf by Barhale Trant Utilities.
