1. Fat, oil and grease blockages account for 55 per cent of sewer flooding incidents in the UK.
2. More than 3,000 homes were flooded in the South East last year because of fat, oil and grease blockages (Water Research Centre).
3. There are about 200,000 sewer blockages throughout the UK every year of which up to 75 per cent are caused by fat, oil and grease.
4. About £15 million alone is spent every year on clearing fat, oil and grease blockages across the country.
5. As well as causing blockages leading to flooding, build-ups of fat, oil and grease can also put wastewater pumping stations out of action.
