Building over agreements
No building work which may potentially restrict access to or damage the public sewer can be done without specific consent – the building over agreement- from Southern Water. Building over or in close proximity to water mains will never be permitted. More information.
Section 104 Sewer Adoption Agreement
When a new development is built, the developer and Southern Water enter into a legal agreement in which we agree to ‘adopt’ the sewer as part of the public sewerage system. This will be done when the developer has satisfied all Southern Water’s conditions. More information.
Public Sewer Records
This is a coloured Geographical Information System(GIS) map that shows the public sewerage system nearest to your property that is our responsibility to repair and maintain.
Combined Sewer
A sewer which carries both foul and surface water (water from roofs, roads etc.).
Private drain or sewer
A sewer in private ownership that drains one or more properties. If your chosen property is supplied by a private drain you may be liable for any repair /maintenance costs.
Rising main
Pipes carrying untreated sewage pumped under pressure. There is no right of connection into them.
