Charity race day 2011

The thrills and spills of jump racing combined with great live music at the award-winning Fontwell Park - the 2011 Racecourse of the Year - for our fifth annual charity race day.

The event took place on October 1, 2011, and raised £80,000 for charities chosen by Southern Water staff. In total, the race days have raised more than £390,000.

Eight charities were supported this year - AAIR/AWAAIREBEAR asthma charity, WaterAid, Macmillan Cancer Care, Help for Heroes, St Barnabas House Hospice, Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulances.

The Saw Doctors, described by Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans as "one of the great live bands", made their fourth race-day appearance.

They have played several UK festivals and released a new single, English Summer. They were joined by Worthing band Flash Company, who played “Irish, Scottish, and yee-haw music with a kick”.
